The annual Coachella festival takes months to put together, but even the pros who make it happen can underestimate the sheer size of it. Case in point: this cool video by Dave Rat of Rat Sound. Wearing Google Glass—the controversial head-worn computer/camera device—Rat announces he’s going to run to all six Coachella stages that his company handles audio for in just 10 minutes, and takes off at a sprint. Needless to say, the video is twice as long.

Saturday, April 19, 2014, independent record stores across the world celebrated Record Store Day, an annual event held on the third weekend in April to celebrate independent record stores. While many artists typically issue limited-edition releases to celebrate the event, indie rocker Jack White decided to take it a step further by breaking the record for “World’s Fastest Studio-to-Store Record,” recording a two-song single, pressing it to vinyl and selling it, all in one day.

Some artists are forever associated with certain studios. You can’t talk about the Beatles without bringing up Abbey Road. Any look at the Beach Boys’ career will bring up United Western Recorders. Prince? Paisley Park. Run-DMC? Chung King. And as the recent documentary, Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, shows, it’s the same thing when it comes to Big Star, the legendary “lost” pop group of the 1970s whose story has always been tightly intertwined with that of Memphis, TN’s Ardent Studios.

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb—which is ironic because April 1 is when the lyin' really starts. April Fools' Day has become an annual prank fest in all corners of the internet as half the world tries to pull one over on the other half—and it's no different in the pro audio arena. In case you missed our rundown of rather surprising product announcements on 4/1/2014, here's a recap of the day's non-events.

The documentary Muscle Shoals, recently released on DVD, Blu-ray and digital services, digs deep into joy, pain and all the other messy, human stuff that came along when a sleepy Alabama town, population 8,000, became a musical prism that focused Sixties and Seventies R&B music into a colorful, blinding light. Dozens of artists weigh in, sharing their insights and experiences recording there, like Aretha Franklin, Bono, Alicia Keys, Steve Winwood, Gregg Allman, Clarence Carter, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Cliff, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett and others.

Still facing backlash from her performance at SXSW the night before, where she gave an over the top, theatrical performance involving a mechanical bull, fake vomit and the consumption of various BBQ meats (all at the sponsorship of Doritos, which required attendees to tweet marketing hashtags on Twitter to receive a ticket), Lady Gaga graced the stage Friday morning as SXSW’s 2014, Keynote Speaker, an honor previously held by music legends like Dave Grohl, Lou Reed and Quincy Jones.

A few weeks ago, we blogged about the unique two-story treehouse recording studio built at Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, WA and how its construction was documented on the Animal Planet reality TV show, Treehouse Masters. Now a run-down of gear in the facility as well as a number of clips and behind-the-scenes videos have surfaced online, providing greater insight, not to mention a tour and a time-lapse of the construction itself.
