Keith made innovative products that most could afford and use. He wanted people to able to make great music, not study manuals. Their product introductions in the late 1980s were so fun. Everyone was watching to see what they would come up with next. RIP.

I still have a bunch of Alesis products, most of them outdated but still working perfectly. How can I forget my first Microverb and later my first Midiverb II? I can still remember the thrill of buying my first ADAT in 1996. I thank Mr. Barr for his innovative creations and send my deepest condolences to his family.

Keith Barr's inventions made all the difference in the world of music performance, recording and pro audio. He was a key to the wave of innovation that changed pro audio gear from the esoteric and expensive to the ubiquitous and affordable. That wave continues today, as we now see 24-bit stereo digital recorders retailing for $99. Many thousands of musicians and engineers owe a debt of gratitude to this magnificent innovator. I wish the best for his family, and like others feel the loss to our world and industry.

Having just moved to LA at the time, and have two small children, I made a decision to quit playing music as a musician. Having had Alesis gear, I had no idea what was ahead of me. I landed a job but where else but Alesis... My god what have I done? It was like the devil beckoning me to just take another sip of that oh so rich and gooey stuff... I had worked in engineering with all the guys, and heard of Keith, and did not meet him until he came in from Taiwan. He had a presence and everyone gathered around to see what the wizard had in store. I was a life experience, and it was a brush with legend. Keith was arrogant, genius, focused and driven. He not only contributed to the music industry, but I guarantee you, that thud you heard the other day was not Keith keeling over, it was the Hostess ding dong stock price ping out. A little known fact unless you worked with Keith, he kept Hostess out of bankruptcy, he ate ding dongs by the case. For all of you that knew him personally, it's true isn't it?
