Meridian, MS (January 18, 2013)—The state of Mississippi yesterday honored Peavey Electronics founder and CEO Hartley Peavey with a marker on the Historic Mississippi Blues Trail, recognizing Peavey’s contribution to the state’s blues heritage. The marker is the only one on the trail that represents a manufacturer.
The Mississippi Blues Trail, created by the Mississippi Blues Commission, is a project to place interpretive markers at the most notable historical sites related to the growth of the blues throughout the state of Mississippi. The trail extends from the border of Louisiana in southern Mississippi and winds its way to Memphis, Tennessee.
As the founder and CEO of Peavey Electronics Corporation, Hartley Peavey heads one of the largest manufacturers of musical instruments and pro audio products, boasting more than 180 patents, a product line exceeding 2,000 products, and distribution in 136 countries. Peavey Electronics reportedly has been manufacturing continuously under the same ownership and management longer than any other major American music and pro audio manufacturer.
“I was born and raised in Mississippi and the state has been the home of Peavey Electronics since its founding in 1965,” Peavey said. “Mississippi is the point-of-origin of America’s musical history and I am honored to have been a part of that.”
The marker was unveiled during a ceremony on January 17 at the Peavey headquarters in Meridan, MS.
