South Windsor, CT (December 2, 2016)—Justin Bieber’s Purpose World Tour just wrapped up last week, but returns next year for a stroll through the Southern Hemisphere. By the time it’s over, the production will have played a whopping 140 concerts. Along every stop of the way is FOH engineer Ken “Pooch” Van Druten and a passel of Telefunken microphones.
“We’re using Telefunken microphones on all of the live instruments,” confirmed Pooch. “We have two different drum kits—one that Justin plays—and we use Telefunken dynamic M82s for the kick drums, and M80s on all snares top and bottom, and there are three snare drums in the main drum kit. We use Telefunken condenser M60s on hats and rides.
He also noted, “After trying several manufacturers’ capsules, we found that the Telefunken M80 was the best capsule for vocals.”
Both the house and monitor world mixes are accomplished on DiGiCo SD7 consoles, supplied—as is all the audio gear—by VER Tour Sound. The production has carried a Meyer Sound PA, based around Leo and Lyon elements, and a monitor rig sending mixes to d&b audiotechnik M2 and J Series boxes with a selection of Shure PSM 1000 wireless in-ear monitor systems with JH Audio Roxanne IEM buds.
