Burlington, MA (June 27, 2017)—Avid has announced the release of Avid Pro Tools 12.8, which offers a plethora of new features, including native Dolby Atmos mixing and support for Avid NEXIS for Pro Tools | HD, and Avid Cloud Collaboration for Pro Tools | First.

Increasing amounts of content, theatrical releases, television shows, video games and music mixes are employing the Dolby Atmos immersive audio format. Through a close partnership between Avid and Dolby, Pro Tools | HD now features an inclusive suite of Dolby Atmos workflows, enabling audio post professionals to work more fluidly in the multi-channel and object-based audio format.

New features include built-in Dolby Atmos panning, support for 7.1.2 stems, Avid pro mixing control surface integration, automation with the Dolby Rendering and Mastering Unit (RMU), and more. Support for Avid NEXIS shared storage eliminates the time wasted moving files between systems, resulting in faster turnarounds and increased productivity.

Updates to Pro Tools | First, a freemium audio workstation, include Avid Cloud Collaboration. Integration with Soundbase enables users to search for new sounds and hear how they fit into any track or project. It includes a 500 MB loop library. Finally, Track Freeze allows users to freeze or unfreeze all plug-ins on a track—or just up to a certain insert—to free up processing power.
