Reggio Emilia, Italy (March 20, 2014)—Eighteen Sound has released its new 18iD extended low frequency neodymium transducer, which operates with Class D and similar amplifiers.
Designed for vented and bandpass subwoofer cabinets, the subwoofer works best with amplifiers capable of delivering 2,600 Watts (10,000 Watt peak) of power. The transducer features a 5.3-inch inside-outside ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice coil); a low-density material air diffractor placed into the heatsink acts as a cooling system, reportedly increasing the power handling capability and lowering the power compression figure.
The 18iD can reportedly handle poor weather conditions, utilizing exclusive cone treatment that provides water repellent properties to both sides of the cone. A special coating applied to both the top and back plates is said to make the transducer more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization.
