Santa Cruz, CA (March 7, 2017)—Plugin Alliance is now offering the bx_subsynth plug-in, modeled on the dbx 120XP Subharmonic Synthesizer. Using founding Plugin Alliance development partner Brainworx’s M/S (Mid-Side) matrix technology to control stereo field content, the bx_subsynth add subharmonic punch and saturation to any sound source.

Brainworx began the bx_subsynth by making a meticulous model of the dbx 120XP Subharmonic Synthesizer’s Waveform Modeling engine, which generates discrete bass frequencies one octave below whatever is fed into it. Unlike psychoacoustic bass processors, bx_subsynth adds real sub-bass to any sound source.

The bx_subsynth plug-in generates subharmonics in up to three discrete frequency bands versus the original hardware’s two: the addition of a higher (56 - 80 Hz) Synthesized Frequency bass band (for resynthesis of the dominant frequency in the range of approximately 112 to 160Hz) allows for fundamental frequencies of a much wider variety of instruments, e.g., snare drum and acoustic guitar.

The plug-in’s Tight Punch control, a 6th-order resonant Butterworth high-pass filter at the input, adds a resonant sub-bass peak and filters out unwanted lows below its cutoff frequency. Powerful Edge processing allows two modes of operation, Smooth and Harsh, that compresses and saturates tracks.

The bx_subsynth plug-in is available for purchase in AAX DSP, AAX Native, AU, VST2, and VST3 forms for Mac OS X (10.8 through 10.12), Windows (7 through 10), and Pro Tools 10.3.10 (or higher) directly from Plugin Alliance and via select Virtual Stock Software Distribution retailers for $149.
