A few weeks ago, Pro Sound Newsmoved to new offices (28 East 28th Street, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10016), as part of NewBay Media moving all its NYC-based concerns under one roof. Here’s a tour around our ‘new’ neighborhood:
For some parts of our company, it’s a whole new home, but for PSN, we’re back in the old hood, as the magazine spent decades in various offices around here (31st and Park, 33rd and Park) before moving five years ago to the Times Square district. Now we’re based in The Ziff-Davis Building, where we are in good company: CBS Interactive, Fremantle Media and other media entities live here, too.
The office is located in the Flatiron District, named after the gorgeous building seen here from our windows, across Madison Square Park. The Flatiron Building is one of the most famous edifices in New York City, and the unique triangular structure is wonder to behold on a daily basis—something I do a lot because Argo Tea (tea’s answer to Starbucks) is on its main floor.
When we’re not bringing you the latest in pro audio, we eat at real rock n’ roll joints—like this bodega across the street from our office. I don’t know if they feed the world, but they do have the cheapest bagels in town. The counter staff is always on Edge though—go figure.
The Flatiron District is a moderately arty, definitely vibrant neighborhood—the kind of place where a giant, multi-floor mural like this is used to advertise movies. That’s not a pasted-on ad—it’s actually hand-painted.
Maybe a lot has changed in the five years since Pro Sound News was located in this part of town, but some things will always stay the same—like the iconic Empire State Building, visible from all over the neighborhood. It’s nice to be back home.
