Pasadena, CA (August 11, 2004)–Disney’s Buena Vista Home Video Division recently hired 5 Alarm Music to select new songs and music for the upcoming DVD release of the popular TV series, Felicity. When music is licensed for network broadcasts, any subsequent DVD release requires replacement of the original songs with realistic style- and sound-alikes.
“Music is an important element of today’s finely-crafted TV shows,” offered Cassie Lord, 5 Alarm Music’s general manager, and a 20-year veteran of the production industry. “So when the time comes to replace original music, we can use experience and knowledge of our music libraries, as well as original songs from our companion independent label, Rescue Records. This process requires a wide knowledge of music genres.”
Rescue Records represents the material of independent bands, artists and singer/songwriters, and coordinates their licensing in film and television. “Many of the artists on Rescue Records are independent bands and artists who are currently touring on the road, either headlining their own tour, participating in international pop festivals, or side-lining superstars like Fleetwood Mac,” explained Lord.
“Because the budget for the Felicity DVD releases was tight after the show had gone off the air,” Lord continued, “a number of the titles used in the broadcast version were too expensive and/or time consuming to re-license. But Rescue Records and 5 Alarm Music was able to help Felicity retain the feel and style of the original version, at a cost that helped Buena Vista Home Video stay within budget and meet their deadline. By controlling both sides of the copyright we simplify the licensing process.”
