Nashville, TN (December 15, 2005)–Rapper Kanye West has received 8 Grammy Nominations including Record of the Year, for “Gold Digger”‘ and two Album of the Year picks–his own Late Registration and Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi, which West helped produce. West has just completed his “Touch the Sky” tour, is opening the last two dates of U2’s “Vertigo” North American tour, and will accompany U2 to New Zealand Australia in 2006. An AKG endorser, West uses the WMS 4000 wireless system with the C 5900 M condenser capsule for his live performances.
West’s other nominations are in the R&B and Rap categories. “Unbreakable,” which West co-wrote with Alicia Keys, Garry Glenn and Harold Lily, is nominated for Best R&B Song. West dominates the Rap field, with four nominations: Best Rap Solo Performance (“Gold Digger”); Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“They Say” by Common featuring Kanye West and John Legend); Best Rap Song (“Diamonds From Sierra Leone”); and Best Rap Album (Late Registration).
