Santa Monica, CA (June 11, 2008)--To accommodate the growing number of indie filmmakers, Woody Woodhall opened a new multi-room edit and mix facility in Santa Monica, CA last year, utilizing Digidesign's Pro Tools|HD Accel platform and Control|24.

After meeting with several indie filmmakers, Woodhall, president of Allied Post Audio (APA), determined that a change in workflow and a reduction of costs associated with audio post projects was a crucial need in the industry. "Audio post for most indie films doesn't take a huge staff or extraordinarily expensive equipment to create. We keep our overhead low so we can provide our clients with the best value," said Woodhall.

"Filmmakers don't need to have a sale to have a great sounding movie. In fact, to be competitive in today's market, a high-end stereo mix is almost required to help them close a deal," said Woodhall. "Providing indie filmmakers with reasonably priced, high quality sound design, Foley, ADR, music editing and mixing, gives them everything they need to move forward. When the time and budget is right, files can easily be ported to create the final 5.1 Dolby surround printmaster at a larger mix stage. By building this new workflow model, we're saving filmmakers time and money, as well as giving them a significant competitive advantage."

First-time feature director Nathan Scoggins is one of the first to use Allied's new approach, for The Least of These, for which APA provided sound design, Foley, ADR, music editing and mixing. The prep work and mixing took about five weeks to complete at APA before the project headed over to the team at Novastar in Hollywood for another three days. The completed film, starring Isaiah Washington and Robert Loggia, is scheduled for theaters this fall.

"It just makes perfect sense for an indie post house like APA to provide this kind of solution to indie filmmakers, versus having them use a more expensive, less personalized corporate facility for the whole project. Their projects take center stage at APA," noted Woodhall.
