Belfast, Northern Ireland (November 2, 2009)--Dr. David Trainor has been promoted to the newly created position of chief technology officer (CTO) at APTX. Also, the company's board of directors has elected Dr. Trainor to serve as an executive director on the board, joining Noel McKenna, CEO; and Jon McClintock, sales president.
Dr. Trainor joins the board of APTX as CTO as the company expands its licensing activity with Tier 1 manufacturers and raises its "ingredient-brand" profile in larger global markets for high-performance audio coding in consumer electronics, multiplayer online gaming, professional audio and broadcasting. As engineering manager for the last four years, Dr. Trainor has led the company's R&D group at the company's Belfast headquarters and is responsible for the development of application-specific audio coding algorithms for various hardware platforms and software operating systems.
Dr. Trainor presented a technical white paper on the subject of "Scalable Audio Coding" at last month's 127th Audio Engineering Society Convention in New York. He is a member of the AES, and recently became a senior member of the IEEE.
Commenting on this key appointment, McKenna said, "David joins our highly experienced board at an exciting point in the growth of our market-proven technology licensing business model. As our newly installed chief technologist, he brings to the company a wealth of world-class design engineering expertise in advanced digital signal processing and leadership skills in innovative product development. David will continue to drive the company's timely production of high-performance audio coding solutions for a host of digital entertainment applications, including apt-X Lossless, a high-quality codec for wireless network applications. We wish him well."
