New York (December 13, 2005)-- ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) has created a list of its Top 25 most-performed Holiday songs for the first five years of the 21st Century, based on its most recent performance data. "Recorded over and over, and revived by each decade's most popular artists, these Holiday favorites remain timeless classics appealing to young and old alike.

Out of all the tunes, the oldest ones are "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and "Winter Wonderland" (both 1934), while the most recent is Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" (1979). "The most prolific songwriter on the list is Johnny Marks, with three songs to his credit: "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and "A Holly Jolly Christmas." Ironically, the most recorded song is not in fact the top tune; Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" takes that title, with well over 500 versions recorded in dozens of different languages.
