Chicago, IL (August 17, 2006)–Seizing an opportunity to create an audio design and finish facility founded on a new premise, Mark DeVos, in association with Comma Music and Sound Design, has launched Particle. The studio provides audio post and sound design services for commercials, long-form projects, short films, and TV shows.
Unlike most audio post facilities, Particle is dedicated to the comfort and perspective of the client as demonstrated by the client-centered orientation of the studio and the streamlined pricing structure.
DeVos has already wrapped TV commercials for Buick, PetsMart, and Midwest Airlines, a sound design-heavy radio spot for Finlandia, while ongoing work includes episodic projects for network TV and web films. Alissa Jansen, formerly of Earhole and Protoculture, joins the company as producer.
Particle will be located in the same building as parent company Comma Music and will collaborate on projects when appropriate, but it will mainly function as a separate entity.
“I’ve known [Comma Creative directors/composers] Larry Pecorella and Bryan Rheude for many years,” said DeVos. “The timing was right for me to open my own business and Comma was there to jump-start the process with infrastructure and marketing expertise. With Particle, the goal is to create a critical listening environment that is bright and spacious as opposed to the typical dark and laboratory-like audio room. We are taking a different approach to the design of the room from the look and feel of the materials to my workstation’s orientation, which places me in face-to-face contact with clients instead of having my back to them. I think this will facilitate our interaction and creative process.”
DeVos brings a wealth of experience to Particle having worked on a diverse range of projects including commercials, TV pilots and music albums. Credits include campaigns for Cheezit, Disney, Morgan Stanley, Marlboro, Allstate, McDonald’s, Philip Morris, and Kellogg’s, and TV pilots for Easy Street with director Paul Haggis and Missing Persons.
