Emeryville, CA (October 21, 2008)--Ex'pression College for Digital Arts specializes in preparing students for careers in animation, gaming, motion graphic design or sound arts. Recently, Ex'pression chose to include studio monitors and subwoofers designed and manufactured by Bag End Loudspeaker Systems in its surround-sound labs.
The hands-on work of the college's MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and Game Audio courses takes place in six individual 5.1 surround-sound labs that incorporate equipment including an Apogee Ensemble audio interface, Novation ReMote SL 61 controller, Quad Core Intel Mac Pro, Logic Pro 8, Native Instruments Komplete, Melodyne, the complete UAD-1 Plug-In collection, and other class-specific software. Also present are a slew of Bag End PM-6s and Infrasub-12s.
"Bag End is known for its high-quality monitors and we knew its product would be ideal for our needs," says Chris Colatos, director of MIDI and Director of Game Audio at the school.
A total of 30 Bag End PM-6 Studio Monitors and 6 Infrasub-12 PRO 5.1 Bass Management Powered Subwoofers were installed in the six individual labs. The PM-6 is a compact 6-inch 2-way coaxial speaker designed for studio applications and utilizes Time-Align technology, developed by EM Long Associates. The Infrasub-12 PRO is also designed for studio applications and features hi pass filtered outputs, a sealed front-firing 12-inch cone speaker and INFRA dual integrator to deliver response down to 8 Hz.
"The monitors and sub-woofers have performed wonderfully," Colatos adds. "Each time a student enters a lab and uses them, a new Bag End fan is born."
Bag End, which was in the process of developing the PM-6, a powered version of its M6 studio monitor, accelerated work to complete the development to meet Ex'pression's need for powered monitors. "We are grateful for their willingness and ability to do custom work when we needed it," says Colatos. "It is this kind of service that adds to their well-deserved reputation for quality."
