Film Scoring 101 is taught by Donald Wilkins, chair of Berklee's department of film scoring. This interactive course guides online students through the process of creating original music to accompany a visual medium. Film Scoring 101 begins by focusing on the aesthetics, terminology, procedures, and technical aspects of film scoring. As the course progresses, students apply these skills towards scoring a short film. By using a broad range of techniques including click tracks, spotting, scoring under dialogue, free timing, and the creative use of overlap cues, students learn how to develop a score and how to synchronize it seamlessly to visual events.

"After working with so many graduates of Berklee College over the years, it's an honor for me to support this new Berkleemusic scholarship," remarked Mothersbaugh. "I had to struggle through trial and error to learn the complicated requirements for TV, game, and film scoring, but now you can enroll online and gain tremendous knowledge and practical experience using the latest technology, newest software, and a curriculum that is very cool. It's done so well, that I think I better enroll--maybe I'll see you in the virtual classroom."
