Phil Ramone.Boston, MA (February 22, 2008)–Berkleemusic.com, the continuing education division of Berklee College of Music, has announced the Phil Ramone Celebrity Online Scholarship.
“I have worked closely with Berklee for many years and am proud to be named a sponsor of this Berkleemusic scholarship,” remarked Ramone. “Online teaching is truly one of the biggest benefits of our new Internet world and increasing the opportunities for music education is mandatory for the healthy future of our Industry. I am honored to assist in that growth.”
Ramone is a respected and prolific music producer, with 34 Grammy nominations, 13 Grammy Awards, an Emmy, and numerous honors and accolades to his credit.
Ramone is also active in music- and service-related organizations. He is the Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Producers and Engineers Wing, and is a Trustee of the MusiCares Foundation, producing their annual pre-Grammy tribute (honorees include Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Brian Wilson, Sting, Bono, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Elton John and Luciano Pavarotti). He is a founding member of METAlliance (The Music & Engineering Technology Alliance).
The Celebrity Online Scholarship Program is designed to reward and assist outstanding students who demonstrate superior academic performance studying in their online Certificate Programs at Berkleemusic. The student recipients of each Celebrity Online Scholarship will receive a substantial award to be used towards paying their tuition and helping them achieve their goals. A total of $80,000 in scholarships will be awarded to Berkleemusic online students annually. Celebrity Online Scholarships were also announced for Berklee honorary doctorate recipients Michel Camilo and Paul Simon, and American country music duo Big and Rich.
Enrollment is now open for the Spring Term at Berkleemusic.com, beginning April 7, 2008.
