Simon Blackwood, Turbosound's new Managing Director, cements the deal with Lynn Martin, President of American Music & Sound.United Kingdom (October 1, 2007)--Effective today, Simon Blackwood has become Turbosound's Managing Director, taking over the role from Philip Hart, who has moved to the position of Chairman of Turbosound and will serve as a Board member of parent company, Proel. The change coincides with the company's switch to a new U.S. distributor, as it has joined the AM&S family of brands, also effective as of today.

“Having sold my stock in Focusrite, I was vaguely thinking about retiring somewhat early and was heading down the A24 through the rolling Sussex countryside to the coast to spend a bit of time on the beach,” said Blackwood, “when I got waylaid at the Partridge Green exit by Philip and was easily persuaded by him into taking over the mantle of MD. Business is about creating a vision and managing the tactics to deliver it. I’ve been working with the excellent Turbosound sales team and distributor channel over the past few months to give me a rapid insight into the dynamics of the market.

Of course, the move to AM&S marks a new distributor in the United States. “Turbosound produces the most innovative loudspeaker systems on the market,“ commented Lynn Martin, President of American Music & Sound. “We are honored to have them on board, and we look forward to spearheading Turbosound’s push into the American market.”

“American Music & Sound is extremely well aligned to take Turbosound to the next level in the US,” says Turbosound’s new Managing Director, Simon Blackwood. “They have a number of complimentary product lines in their roster to leverage our brand and are in a perfect position to market our products through their existing channels.”

“Also fantastic news for us,” comments Blackwood, “is that Brad Stephens, who managed the Turbosound brand at our previous distributor, Sennheiser, is moving across to AM&S to continue his role as National Sales Manager and so maintain continuity with the company’s client base. Brad is a long time Turbosound fanatic with more than 12 years experience with the product line and that combined with my long personal association with AM&S President and Founder, Lynn Martin, means I’m absolutely confident that the combination of Brad and AM&S will work extremely well for us.”

As alluded to above, Blackwood is no stranger to the pro audio business. “Having founded and very quickly grown the Spirit mixer business in the early ‘90s and more recently restored Focusrite/Novation to health,” he said, “I know most aspects of the music industry pretty well. But high performance loudspeakers are relatively new to me, so it was an excellent mechanism for me to really get to grips with things before I took over from Philip.”

Now, he is fully ensconced and ready for the challenges ahead. “I’ve spent some time looking for the right person to take over from me,” adds Hart. “Simon and I have a long association. We first worked together in the 1980s and he then joined me at Soundcraft, so I know him well and am sure I’ve found my perfect replacement.”

“We have a number of strategic plans already in place, one of which is focussing on expanding our business in the key US marketplace and you’ll see change there in the immediate future,” reveals Blackwood. “We have a fantastic product line, a great team and an excellent brand base to build on. I’m looking forward to helping Turbosound deliver its potential”.
