New York, NY (August 17, 2005)–Brian Rund of Bionic Media is on an award-winning streak with a series of spots for the Sci-Fi Channel. Two spots from the on-going image campaign, “Desert Rose” and “Unraveled,” received Gold at this year’s BDA/PROMAX award ceremony, and his music for a Twilight Zone Marathon won TELLY and AEGIS Awards.
Sci-Fi brought the final audio elements to Rund, a frequent point person for their audio finishing, to enhance the entire audio mix and handle the nuances of each spot. “These IDs are like cool, short Twilight Zone movies, so I approached them from a cinematic perspective where each audio element was tweaked subtly to draw viewers into this strange world,” said Rund. “All networks have a ‘look,’ but few have a ‘sound.’ Sci-Fi has a distinct audio logo and I’m proud to play a role in its development.”
The unique eight-spot package runs the gamut from the comical (a guy makes out with his girlfriend but somehow all the sensations he should be feeling have been transferred to another guy at the bar); to the scary (an alien disguised as an elderly woman takes care of two crooks by hurling them skyward and crashing down onto two parked cars); to the eccentric (a balding man plucks a hair off his head and un-spools his entire existence).
“The key to this project was finding the right balance of all the audio elements,” explained Rund. “For some, foley drove the spot, for others I focused on music augmentation, while a few we simply tweaked the musical elements already there to give it more of a cinematic feeling.”
Rund’s collaboration with Sci-Fi was recently rewarded when a spot for the channel’s Twilight Zone Marathon won TELLY and AEGIS Awards for music. “I created an unexpected, hip-hop version of the classic Twilight Zone theme for this piece. It really made the spot work.”
