Troy, AL (October 18, 2004)–A scoreboard-mounted array of six Community R6-Basshorn loudspeakers are now pumping long waves across the football field at Troy State University (Troy, AL). Installed by All Pro Sound of Pensacola, FL, R6-Basshorns are driven by QSC PLX amplifiers, with signal processing from Biamp. A Yamaha O1V console presides at the center of the system.
Not too long ago, football stadiums were served by fairly straight forward PA systems that were only required to deliver an announcer’s play-by-play. But 30 – 40-foot wide video screens, says Bobby Taylor, director for All Pro Sound (Pensacola, FL), have changed football games into an entertainment experience. “High-quality video requires audio with an expanded frequency response to support it,” he said, “and most of the expansion has come in the low end. We really needed some enormous low end here, something far beyond the norm for low frequencies.”
Pre-game concerts, click tracks during the game, on-screen commercials: all need the support of a high-quality audio system. “The R6’s as we have them arrayed,” said Taylor, “add a tremendous amount of impact to the stadium experience…getting hit in the chest from 500 feet away with low frequency, that gets you excited.”
