JBL LSR Series studio monitors are
being used in the control rooms for
the new Conan show on TBS.
Harman News Services - NORTHRIDGE, California – A wild ride unprecedented in broadcast history can now be summed up in a single word: Conan, as in award-winning comedic talent Conan O’Brien’s new late-night talk and entertainment show that premiered on TBS on November 8. Ensuring top quality audio for the show, the new audio control rooms at Warner Brothers Stage 15 from which Conan originates have been outfitted with JBL Professional LSR Series Studio Monitors.
The Production Mix and Music Mix control rooms have JBL 5.1 monitoring systems comprised of three LSR6328P eight-inch bi-amplified studio monitors in the L-C-R positions, a pair of LSR6325P-1 five-inch bi-amplified studio monitors for the rear-mounted surrounds, and the LSR6312SP powered subwoofer with 12-inch woofer and JBL's patented Differential Drive® technology.
The Production Control Room is fitted with a pair of JBL LSR4328P powered 8-inch studio monitors and two LSR4312SP subwoofers. In addition, four post-production edit bays are each equipped with a pair of JBL LSR4328P powered 8-inch monitors. The JBL systems provide consistent and accurate audio monitoring throughout the show’s production chain. A JBL LSR6300 system is installed in the Green Room, allowing Conan guests to monitor the show prior to their onstage appearance.
“The studio for this new show is smaller than the previous stage at The Tonight Show, about 250 seats versus over 350 at the other studio,” says Paul Sandweiss, 6-time Emmy® Award winner and sound designer who planned and specified the audio systems for the new Conan show and for its predecessor, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. “As a result, the show will be much more up close and personal and the sound will also be more intimate. We needed audio monitoring that’s as precise as possible, and the JBL LSR6300 and LSR4300 series monitors are exactly that.”
Conan is broadcast in 5.1 on the HD broadcast and in stereo on the SD broadcast. “We are able to monitor in both formats in the Production Mix and Music Mix rooms,” Sandweiss added. “The JBL speakers translate very well in either format, so we sound good to everyone, everywhere.”
The award-winning LSR Series Studio Monitors feature RMCTM Room Mode Correction, JBL's exclusive technology that analyzes and corrects the response of each speaker in the room for absolute accuracy at the mix position. The JBL LSR6300 Series professional loudspeakers deliver exceptional accuracy and performance for demanding music, post audio and broadcast applications. Each model provides ultra-flat response, extraordinary SPL capability and technology to optimize performance in any size production environment. All models are shielded, ready for mounting and THX® pm3 approved. The JBL LSR4300 Series Studio Monitors incorporate digital inputs and network intelligence for central control of speakers from the mix position.
