Las Vegas, NV (April 18, 2007)–Crawford Broadcasting recently purchased 16 Perception 200 one-inch large-diaphragm condenser microphones for several of its Birmingham, Alabama cluster’s studios. Crawford Broadcasting owns and operates WDJC, WYDE, WXJC, WPHC and WLGD radio stations in Alabama.
With such a large facility servicing several stations, Crawford Broadcasting needed a reliable, high-quality microphone option at a reasonable price. After testing various microphones from several manufacturers, market chief engineer Stephen Poole chose the AKG Perception 200 for its superior price/performance ratio. “The value of the unit is really too good to pass up,” explained Poole. “We’ve installed the mics very heavily in production, as well as in all our remotes, and have been pleased with the performance.”
“AKG’s Perception 200 microphone is a professional general-purpose microphone and is ideal for use in broadcast environments such as Crawford Broadcasting because it offers an unbeatable combination of value and performance,” explained Mike Torlone, AKG’s recording & broadcast market development manager.
The Perception 200 microphone offers a true one-inch diaphragm, rugged metal housing and cardioid polar pattern. With switchable bass roll-off and switchable -10dB pre-attenuation pad, the Perception 200 is even well suited for sources with high SPL levels up to 145db SPL. Its warm, “classic’ large diaphragm sound brings out the best in each user’s voice clearly and intelligibly.
The Crawford Broadcasting facility has installed 12 of the Perception 200 microphones, and keeps the remaining four as spares in case of emergency. As Poole explained, “At that great price, we can afford to be prepared with spares!”
