Mol, Belgium (October 3, 2005)–Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer, Darcy Proper, is leaving New York City to take up residence in Galaxy Studio’s state-of-the-art mastering suite from November 1, 2005. To Galaxy, located in Mol, Belgium, Proper brings with her over 15 years of experience in the audio industry including live sound, electronic music, classical recording and editing, and her primary focus–the art of mastering. She has spent the latter part of her career as a senior mastering engineer at Sony Music Studios in New York City where she has worked on an impressive array of projects, ranging from restoration of historical mono recordings to the high-resolution mastering of cutting-edge 5.1 surround releases.
Proper’s list of mastering credits encompasses a wide variety of musical genres from classical to jazz, early country to progressive rock, and nearly everything in between. Proper is confident that Galaxy’s mastering facility will allow her to continue to offer her established clients the highest level of professional services, which they have come to expect from her over the years. She also looks very forward to establishing new working relationships with the talented music professionals in Europe.
Prior to joining the team at Galaxy Studios, Darcy Proper spent over six years as a senior mastering engineer at Sony Music Studios in New York City. During her tenure there, she worked on a wide variety of music ranging from re-issues of early acoustic mono recordings to current 5.1 surround releases. Recent projects have included Charlie Poole’s You Ain’t Talkin’ To Me (3 CD set), Steely Dan’s Everything Must Go (CD & DVD-A), Porcupine Tree’s Deadwing (DVD-A), and Renee Fleming’s “Haunted Heart” (CD.) She has also co-produced several re-issues including the Sinatra in Hollywood box set, the original cast recording of My Fair Lady, and The Dave Brubeck Quartet At Carnegie Hall.
Prior to focusing her career on mastering, she spent several years as an editor/engineer at Sony Classical Productions and as a sound reinforcement engineer for various theater and live music venues around the city. Proper holds a Bachelor of Music from New York University’s Music Business & Technology program.
