Daly City, CA (October 17, 2006)–The season premiere of ABC’s hit television series Lost aired October 4, and marks the first episode of an entire season that will use the Digidesign ICON integrated console environment and Pro Tools HD 7.2 for all facets of audio post production, surround 5.1 mixing, and print mastering.
Scott Weber and Frank Morrone have teamed up to mix Lost on Stage 6, one of two recently upgraded Digidesign ICON mixing stages at Buena Vista Sound, the sound department at Walt Disney Pictures and Television. Disney upgraded from a traditional large-format digital console to the dual-operator, 48-fader Digidesign D-Control worksurface for its flexibility, sound quality, automation, and the complete workflow the system offers.
“We love ICON and Pro Tools because it allowed us to build ourselves a custom console,” stated Scott Weber, mixer for Lost who has been with Disney for 14 years. “It started as an open palette, and my partner Frank Morrone and I carefully selected the best–sounding EQs, dynamics, and sound processors and created custom console layouts tailored to our personal preferences. It’s the only system that you can automate every parameter of every plug-in, including reverb. And the modern evolution of plug-ins sound great!”
“We replaced our traditional large-format digital console and all of our outboard gear, except a Cedar DNS 2000, and now everything goes into Pro Tools,” Weber added. “Mixing with ICON is a natural evolution for us because we had already been mixing so much through Pro Tools. With ICON, we added input faders and now everything–all 200 plus tracks–is mixed inside the box.”
The mix team also uses Pro Tools HD 7.2 as their digital dubber/stem recorder and Avid Mojo for video playback.
