Barcelona, Spain (July 17, 2006)–DUY has released a new mastering tool, the DUY Magic Spectrum. Available for TDM, RTAS, Audio Units, VST and MAS/MOTU for Mac, DUY Magic Spectrum is a high-quality mastering plug-in that allows you to modify frequency contents in an amazingly flexible and precise manner. Any frequency content of any kind of audio material can be edited.
DUY Magic Spectrum’s practical design includes a range of functions that vary from a very basic spectrum Matching use to a total control over the audio spectrum, with an impressive high resolution and an unprecedented degree of quality.
The most basic utility that Magic Spectrum provides is the matching of spectrums. For example: take a track you like the sound of, and “play it” to Magic Spectrum. Then, take your track and analyze your sound. Finally, apply the sound character of the song you like to your own song, in whichever amount you like.
If you have no songs to use as a reference, you may also load any of the many included presets, analyzed from some of the best recordings of all time, or from specific-sounding masters. Magic Spectrum can also be used as an EQ that emphasizes the results, or you can even load 4 different responses and vectorially combine these responses in the way you like, to add “more character” of one sound or more of another.
The “Advanced” mode lets you manipulate the spectrum by providing graphic edition tools that enable you to have direct access to the spectrum of the song itself. Magic Spectrum will help out anyone wanting to make the spectrum of a song sound like another. For example, if producer “A” has made a lovely recording of a song, you can analyze the song and apply the “sound” to your track.
If you’re adding a bonus track to an album, for example, and you’d like to make the track not to outstand sonically from the rest of the album, use Magic Spectrum to re-master it and make it more “even” in comparison to the other tracks in the album.
In the designing stage of Magic Spectrum, DUY has strived to develop and ultimately achieve proprietary techniques and algorithms that have enabled to treat the audio signal in a highly professional manner, with internal 56-bit resolution, phase coherence, immediate-response algorithms, in-depth statistical analysis and much more.
The design of DUY Magic Spectrum provides different edition levels: the basic mode allows you to match frequencial contents, whereas the very powerful advanced manual mode provides intelligent tools and plenty of graphic information.
DUY Magic Spectrum is shipping now, and ships in 2 different versions:
DUY Magic Spectrum: native version for RTAS, AU, VST & MAS is priced at 249 EUR.
DUY Magic Spectrum PRO: is the TDM version, priced at 349 EUR.
Here is what some producer/engineers have said about DUY Magic Spectrum:
Engineer/mixer/producer Charles Dye, author of the DAW session-based mixing course on DVD, Mix It Like A Record (www.likearecord.com); (Lauryn Hill, Jon Bon Jovi, Shakira, Ricky Martin): “I’ve been waiting for a plug like this for a long time! DUY’s Magic Spectrum is extremely powerful. It works great on entire mixes when matching EQ curves, and on individual instruments when matching different mics. I’ll be pulling this one out all the time.”
Producer/writer Andy Gray (Tori Amos, U2, Gary Numan, Korn, Madonna, Paul Oakenfold, Brian Transeau (BT)…): “DUY Magic Spectrum is just what I have been looking for!! Yes, it can certainly help on the final mixdown, but you can also match different sounding breakbeats! Scan a ‘break’ you like the sound of, and apply that EQ to the ‘break’ you like the groove of…. Cool and Fast!! Love It!”
Producer/mastering engineer Nigel Bates (Peter Gabriel, Steve Winwood, Paul Carrack, Celtic Legends): “DUY Magic Spectrum is the Perfect Matching Tool. Once again, DUY’s plug-ins do their job!!”
Magic Spectrum Pro for TDM provides basically the same functionality as Magic Spectrum. However, as an added value, the PRO version adds even higher precision in the frequency bands, allowing for breathtaking accuracy in the edition and processing of each of the bands. Magic Spectrum PRO’s process takes place in the time domain, using DUY’s exclusive OFIR (Optimal Frequency Impulse Renderer) technology algorithm, allowing to render audio with extremely complex equalizations within TDM with zero-latency.
Magic Spectrum Pro for TDM is presented as a Mono process. For multichannel applications, the plug-in is inserted as a “Multi-mono” plug-in, with the “Link” button active within Pro Tools.
Magic Spectrum for AU, RTAS, VST and MAS processes the signal within the frequency domain, using an evolution of the FFT algorithm that provides quality to the processing, thanks to the high overlapping rate. The algorithm is processed in an accelerated manner using the vectorial unit of the processor, allowing for an extremely light load on processors.
Magic Spectrum for RTAS, Audio Units, VST and MAS is presented as a Mono and Stereo process, except for VST, which is always Stereo but allows Mono processing as well.
