Electro-Voice has released LAPS V2.2A, a Microsoft Excel-based app for sound system designers using EV line-array loudspeakers. LAPS can model a full sound system, including main arrays, secondary arrays such as delays and front-fills, and subwoofers. After the final system design is chosen, LAPS provides “full rigging specifications” and “includes comprehensive checking of rigging working loads, and will not predict performance of rigs which it considers to be unsafe.”
LAPS V2.2A reportedly increases main-to-delay calculation to 412 feet, improves coverage prediction curve accuracy above 6,000 Hz, improves the usability of polar response patterns for large array tilt angles and provides more realistic target frequency-response curves. The new version also includes pages for air and cable loss predictions, and an improved user interface, among other enhancements. The Windows-only software program is available for free download from EV’s website.
