Hollywood, CA (April 21, 2005)–The West Hollywood House of Blues was declared “Nightclub of the Year” at the Pollstar Awards in February, an annual event that recognizes outstanding performance in the concert industry. An essential element of the House of Blues’ strong reputation in the industry are loudspeakers from EV, whose X-Array and XLC systems can be found at HoB locations across the U.S.
Monte Wise, EV/Midas/KT director of special projects, worked closely with House of Blues and system designers/integrators db Sound in making the Hollywood House of Blues (and many others) sound so good. Monte described why EV works at the HoB:
“EV’s relationship with House of Blues was really established by Harry Witz of db Sound, back in the late ’90s. db Sound had great success using EV X-Array with the Stones, and Harry Witz suggested to Aron Levine (vice president of product and distribution, House of Blues) that X-Array would be ideal for the House of Blues–a real touring grade system that would offer the level of performance they were looking for at the time. db Sound installed the first House of Blues X-Array system at their Las Vegas location. More X-Array installations followed across the U.S. with great results. Another option presented itself with the release of the XLC compact line array three years ago. The Hollywood House of Blues was the first location to install the XLC, and features arrays of six boxes at left and right in the main room, with three X-Line X-Subs per side. At that time I became more involved in both the hands-on side of things and the corporate side of things, in terms of flying to locations to ensure optimal system performance and operation, expediting the line-array learning curve for the crews and production managers, and in terms of helping design EV system solutions that would be useful as templates for future reference at new locations. The most recent of these is in Cleveland, which opened with an XLC rig in 2004.”
Wise continued, “The House of Blues chain offers so much to touring acts, perhaps the most important factor being nationwide consistency in terms of management quality and production facilities. EV is proud to be associated with House of Blues in this regard, and we’re glad our systems continue to contribute to their preeminent reputation in the concert industry.”
