Berlin, Germany (September 4, 2009)--A pair of Fairlight Constellation XCS 2-bay consoles were recently used for sound to HD picture editing at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics Berlin 2009.
German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF used the occasion of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics Berlin 2009 to begin broadcasting HDTV content. Stations ARD HD, ZDF HD and Eins Festival broadcasted the event, which took place from August 12th through 23rd, in HD 720p.
ARD and ZDF's Mobile Produktionseinheit (mobile production unit, MPE), which is used for all major sports events as well as other important outside broadcast applications, was the local production center. Production company BERTA took on all of the technical aspects of picture and sound, as well as distribution to other TV stations. ARD and ZDF, under the umbrella of BERTA, acted as the worldwide host-broadcaster offering HDTV signals.
Berlin-based Media Logic provided technical services to the broadcasters, including the delivery of production equipment on location and all necessary assistance and support. Picture editing was handled by 16 Avid Media Composer systems, while two Fairlight Constellation XCS 2-bay consoles were used for sound to HD picture editing. Media Logic integrated the consoles, which replaced previous Pro Tools systems.
"The whole setup assures an optimized workflow to handle sound edits efficiently and with full HD compatibility, ready to be broadcasted," says Media Logic director Robert Trebus. "In addition, both Fairlight units are connected to the central picture crossbar and are ready to broadcast directly in case of urgent time-critical events."
