San Francisco, CA (November 5, 2010)--At AES, Focal Professional is launching its new SM9 flagship monitor, which sports independent monitoring systems housed within the same cabinet.
The SM9 includes:
• A three-way monitor equipped with a one-inch pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter, a six-and-a-half-inch midrange driver, eight-inch bass driver and an 11-inch passive radiator. All the drivers are made of the Focal exclusive "W" sandwich technology. This monitor reportedly delivers a frequency response of 30 Hz-40 kHz (+/-3 dB) at a maximum SPL of 116 dB.
• A two-way monitor equipped with a one-inch pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter and a six-and-a-half-inch "W" cone mid-bass driver. This monitor is said to have a frequency response of 90 Hz-20 kHz (+/-3 dB), allowing it to verify mixes on a bass-limited speaker such as televisions, computer systems, car systems, iPod speakers and other multimedia systems.
The concept behind the sealed cabinet two-way monitor is to allow the engineer to precisely adjust levels and EQ in this critical range. The activation of the two-way monitoring mode is achieved by engaging the FOCUS mode on the side panel.
The company says that the pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter has been improved, its linearity and ability to reveal micro-information due to a new magnet structure that reportedly achieves 2.1 Tesla of magnetic flux. This has an effect on the tweeter's ability to reproduce micro-dynamics, which helps the engineer to dial-in compression and reverb.
