Focusrite’s ISA828 mic preamp. High Wycombe, U.K. (August 28, 2007)–Focusrite has unveiled its ISA828 8-channel microphone preamplifier. It features eight original ISA transformer-based preamps in a single 2U chassis.
The eight ISA Series transformer-based microphone preamps feature exactly the same vintage microphone preamplifier design as the original ISA 110 module from Focusrite’s Forte console (including the original Lundahl L1538 transformer and bespoke zobel network).
The preamps are complemented by eight line inputs, four instrument inputs and an optional 8-channel 192 kHz ADC. Due to 25-pin D-Type connectors, the ISA828 also integrates with Pro Tools|HD, as well as other hard-disk recorders and mixing desks.
The microphone input stage includes a variable impedance circuit, allowing the user to switch between four input impedance settings. The original ISA 110 setting is supplemented by three further impedance settings to match or creatively mismatch the preamp with any microphone collection.
The four front-panel instrument inputs also feature high- and low-impedance options to provide a DI solution. Insert switches are also featured on every channel, should the need arise to place extra processing between the preamp and converter. Vintage design high-pass filters are also provided on every channel.
Focusrite’s optional 8-channel 192 kHz ADC provides eight channels of A/D conversion, delivering noise at -122 dBF and jitter < 250 picoseconds. Every channel features a 6-LED input meter, complete with meter trim. The meter displays and meter trim calibrations utilize the same reference points as Digidesign’s HD system and provide input metering, independent of the DAW.
