Woodinville, WA (October 25, 2005)--From the influential jazz sounds of Wayne Shorter to the global beats of Trilok Gurtu, guitarist and composer David Gilmore has cast a wide musical net, recording and performing with artists like Randy Brecker, David Sanborn, Don Byron and Cassandra Wilson. Gilmore has spent much of this year on tour with Grammy-nominated singer Joss Stone. From a tour bus in central Spain, the Boston native talks about his touring studio and using the latest version of Mackie Tracktion on the road.

"I've got my laptop, a little preamp and Mackie's Tracktion 2 software," Gilmore explained. "I love working with Tracktion because it's quick, it's easy to use, and it really does everything I need."

Gilmore continued, "There's no messing around with an arrangement window here, a mixer window there, different EQ and processor windows--it's all laid out, and nothing's more than a couple of clicks away. Tracktion's got a nice, intuitive workflow, and I can spend my time and energy making music rather than clicking through menus."

While Gilmore clearly loves the touring life, he does confess to missing some of the gear he relies on in his home studio. "I've got a nice little studio in my house and there are definitely a few things I wish I could take with me on the road--like my Mackie Onyx mixer, for example." Gilmore uses the Onyx 1640 to track at home, transferring up to 18 tracks at once into Tracktion with the mixer's unique FireWire interface.

"I really like the Onyx--it's got a nice warm sound and a lot of features I've never seen on a mixer this small. The EQ is really sweet, the pre's are great, and I love how everything is laid out. Next tour, I'm definitely going to find a way to take it with me."
