The awards were presented during the opening night concert, which was sponsored by Fender Musical Instruments.

New York City (October 25, 2005)--Bass Player Magazine presented Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Awards to bass legends Anthony Jackson and Will Lee during Bass Player LIVE! conference which took place on October 16 and 17 in New York. The awards were presented during the opening night concert, which was sponsored by Fender Musical Instruments.

The evening featured Jackson, with guitarist Wayne Krantz and drummer Cliff Almond, as well as Lee, with his Beatles tribute band, The Fab Faux. Reggie Hamilton opened the evening with his energetic set, followed by the Latin funk of Oskar Cartaya & the Enclave, with Bass Player editor in chief Bill Leigh serving as the event's Master of Ceremonies. Jackson is known for his work with Chaka Khan, Billy Paul, the O'Jays, and many others, while Will Lee's lengthy resume includes over 25 years as a musician on David Letterman's late night show.

Paul Shaffer, Lee's bandmate and longtime leader of the CBS Orchestra, presented the award to Will at the China Club. Jackson's award was presented by notable bass builder and long-time friend, Vinnie Fodera. The Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a performer who, during their lifetime, has made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of bass playing. Past recipients include Oteil Burbridge, Leo Fender, Percy Heath, Milt Hinton, Jerry Jemmott, Al McKibbon, Joe Osborn, Chuck Rainey, Bobby Rodriguez, and Billy Sheehan.

Bass Player LIVE! was a weekend of clinics, exhibitors, and performances, geared to get bass players closer to their favorite manufacturers and artists, including Lee, Jackson, David Ellefson, Matt Rubano, Victor Bailey, Oskar Cartaya, Gail Ann Dorsey, Wayman Tisdale, Bob Cranshaw, Freekbass, Mike Pope, John Miller, Matt Garrison, Reggie Hamilton, James Genus, Ed Friedland, Rhonda Smith, Christian McBride, and Armand Sabal-Lecco.
