Calgary, Canada (September 27, 2006)–Center Street Church (CSC) was founded in 1958 with just 58 members, but today the church has evolved into two campuses, with the latest a $14.5 million dollar facility inaugurated in 2004. The older facility needed an audio upgrade, however, so technical director Nathan Picklyk turned to Sennheiser Canada for help.
An InnovaSon Sy48 digital live desk now lives at the Center Street Church in Calgary, Canada. Now the facility sports both an InnovaSon Sy48 console at FOH, complete with a DioCore (an EtherSound-enabled stagebox), and an Sy80 console on monitors that is supplied with its own stagebox. Both consoles are equipped with DioES modules offering 64 EtherSound channels each, making the whole system networkable on EtherSound if required.
Picklyk noted, “We run four services a week, plus mid-week events ranging from internal functions to external rentals, conferences, concerts, etc. We’d simply outgrown our existing system and needed to upgrade. Given the nature of our requirements at CSC–that is, a large number of events, quick turnaround times, multiple operators, large numbers of inputs and a small footprint–we were committed to the digital format from the outset. Furthermore, I particularly like the way InnovaSon handles large numbers of inputs and outputs. Everything is at your fingertips, you don’t have to flip through pages to find what you need. This is a hugely important issue in live production as it can be the source of many missed cues and errors.”
