San Francisco, CA (January 7, 2003)–Expression Center for New Media hosted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Jorma Kaukonen early this week. At Expression, Kaukonen taped several guitar lessons to be added to the lessons currently available on his interactive teaching site, www.breakdownway.com. Students from the Expression Center helped record and mix the audio for the video lessons, while Bob Sarles of San Francisco’s Ravin’ Films produced and directed the video production.
Kaukonen’s lessons are available to students as interactive streaming video on the ‘Break Down Way’ website, which was created by David Wolff and Columbia Recording artist Kaukonen–a founding member of Jefferson Airplane and long time member of Hot Tuna. The Web site is an extension of the teaching Kaukonen has done at his renowned guitar camp ‘Fur Peace Ranch’ located in Southeast Ohio, in the Appalachian foothills.
“Expression continues to host the industry’s most famed producers and award-winning artists to provide our students the opportunity to interact and learn from the world’s top talent,” said Gary Platt, president and founder, Expression Center for New Media. “It’s a priceless opportunity for our students to participate in such projects and expand their horizons in terms of techniques, work ethic and opportunity. There’s no other learning institution on this planet that offers this type of unique learning environment!”
“We are thrilled to be able to bring Jorma to Expression,” added Sarles. “Jorma is one of the finest acoustic finger picking guitarists in the world. He has a great love for sharing his vast knowledge and experience. It has been a privilege to be involved in this ongoing teaching project with Jorma. We are delighted that Expression has invited us to their studio for this shoot.”
