The quiet before the storm–a Meyer Milo PA hangs, ready to hit 139dB during Manowar’s soundcheck.Bad Arolsen, Germany (August 4, 2008)–Metal band Manowar holds the Guinness World Record for “loudest band in the world,” and apparently has no intention of giving up its title. The band’s soundcheck at the second annual Magic Circle Festival in Bad Arolsen, Germany, found it hitting levels in excess of 139dB through Westfalen Sound GmbH’s Meyer Sound Milo system.

The Meyer Sound system that Westfalen provided comprised a total of 32 Milo and two Milo 120 line array loudspeakers, with low end provided by 64 700-HP subwoofers. A dozen M’elodie line array loudspeakers covered front fill, with three CQ-1 loudspeakers handling center fill and outfill duties.

Reportedly, the band’s technical rider specifies a minimum unweighted SPL of 126dB at FOH position. Westfalen Sound’s Dirk Maron noted, “In spite of these exceptional levels, the sound was virtually free of any distortion. After the systems arrived back at Westfalen Sound, we checked them and found that none suffered even the slightest damage. I think that speaks for itself.”
