A fixture of Chicago's summer entertainment scene since 1904, "The Ravinia Experience" features three unique venues: the 3,200-seat open-air Pavilion; the historic 850-seat Martin Theatre; and the elegant 450-seat Bennett Gordon Recital Hall, all ensconced in a heavily forested section of suburban Highland Park.

"I've worked with Masque Sound GM Dan Shoman for years," Gotshall says. "He was the first call I made when I opened my company in 2006. Tech guru Paul Klimson has been incredibly supportive, too; he performed extensive tests throughout the Ravinia grounds to formulate a technology package to provide us with optimum sound quality. Masque co-principal Geoff Shearing developed a program that enabled us to rent everything we needed while remaining within our operating budget."

"Our gear package for the Ravinia Festival is designed to serve a multiplicity of performance needs, from soft jazz to hard rock to full symphony orchestra," Klimson reports. "Because optimum flexibility was a priority, the system can provide full FOH mixing capabilities for artists who travel without consoles or function as a 'guest position' for self-contained acts."

Gotshall adds, "IATSE Local 2 FOH engineer Norm Kruger was particularly pleased with the Yamaha PM5D RH digital consoles at FOH and monitor positions, and the L-Acoustics wedges and the Meyer system. We were impressed not only with the gear, but with Masque's outstanding customer service. That's what truly completed the package. It's also cool that aside from using their own consoles at our guest position, the crews of some of the top acts who perform here choose to go with the full Masque system."

In addition to ongoing performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Ravinia Concert Experience has set an eclectic series of performances including Sheryl Crow, Dave Stewart, Donna Summer, Aimee Mann and Tony Bennett.
