Los Angeles (January 22, 2004)–The complete list of the nominees for the Motion Picture Sound Editors 2003 awards has been released. The awards will be presented at the 51st annual “Golden Reel” Awards, to be held February 28 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Director Arthur Hiller will be presenting Don Hall with a Career Achievement Award at the event.
There are three to nine nominees per category, depending on the number of entries, the category type, and ties, and a total of 19 categories.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is the only feature film to receive three nominations, in the Dialogue, Music and Sound Effects Editing categories. Cold Mountain, Kill Bill, Vol. 1, The Last Samurai, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World, Seabiscuit, and Underworld each received two nominations. In animated features, Brother Bear, Finding Nemo and Jungle Book 2–all from Walt Disney Pictures–each received two nominations.
In the Longform Television category, And Starring Pancho Villa As Himself was the only film to receive three nominations. Hitler: Rise of Evil, The Salem Witch Trials, Saving Jessica Lynch, and The Music Man each received two nods.
In Episodic Television, American Dreams, Carnivale, ER, Third Watch and Without a Trace all received two nominations. In Episodic Animation, Spongebob Squarepants received two nominations, plus an additional nomination for Spongebob: The Ride in the category of Special Venue.
In Student Film, USC nabbed three out of five nominations.
