Los Angeles, CA (August 23, 2006)--Musikvergnuegen has signed composer Cliff Martinez for exclusive spot representation. The agreement, effective August 1, encompasses the licensing of existing tracks via the company's in-house licensing division, Beyond, and commissioned work to be created at Musikvergnuegen.

Well known as the film composer of choice for directors such as Steven Soderbergh, with whom he has collaborated since Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Martinez has also scored Narc (for director Joe Carnahan), Wonderland (James Cox), Pump up the Volume (Allan Moyles), and Havoc (Barbara Kopple). As a drummer, he garnered acclaim playing with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and can be heard on their self-titled album, as well as What Hits? and Out In L.A.

"We've long been great admirers of Cliff's film work," said Musikvergnuegen owner/composer Walter Werzowa. "He and Musikvergnuegen share a similar aesthetic muse--we tend to approach projects from a unique, sometimes unanticipated perspective. We feel honored to welcome him into the commercial community."

Born in New York and raised in Columbus, OH, Martinez' first composing job was for an episode of Pee Wee's Playhouse, joining the ranks of such renowned composers as Danny Elfman, Mark Mothersbaugh, Todd Rundgren and Stanley Clarke. Martinez began his music career as a drummer, playing professionally from 1980-1990, performing for the Weirdos, arguably the first punk rock band on the West Coast, then Lydia Lunch, and Captain Beefheart (one of Martinez' musical heroes) on his final album, "Ice Cream For Crow." As a member of seminal punk rock band The Dickies, Martinez recorded "Killer Clowns From Outer Space," "Second Coming" and "Idiot Savant."

Martinez joins Werzowa and house composers John Luker and Justin Burnett on the Musikvergnuegen roster. The company's recently wrapped spot projects include Sprite "Greenhouse" (Crispin Porter + Bogusky), Clorox "Ball" and "Lemonade" (DDB/SF), Gillette "Venus Megabrands" (BBDO/NY) and Comcast's "Laugh Riot" (Goodby Silverstein).
