Beverly Hills, CA (February 7, 2006)–You could pass one of television’s hardest working talents in the street and be none the wiser. Joe Cipriano’s face may not be familiar, but his voice, brought to listeners via a vintage Neumann U 87i large diaphragm microphone, is instantly recognizable to anyone who spends any time watching FOX, NBC or the Food Network.
The Neumann U 87i is the choice for Joe Cipriano, voice over talent for FOX, NBC, and the Food NetworkCipriano, whose vocal timbre initially brought him to prominence during the promotion of the seminal teen films, Porky’s and Fast Times at Ridgemont High has owned his U 87 for over two decades. “I’d always talked about building a studio in my home. In 1984 I was working in voiceovers and my wife, as a surprise for my birthday, with the assistance of the owner of a studio I was working at, bought a Neumann U 87. She threw a surprise birthday party for me and said, ‘Now go build a studio around it.'”
These days, the U 87 is just as likely to be on the road with Cipriano, who frequently finds himself recording voice work from hotels for his radio, television and motion picture clients around the world. “The last thing I wanted to do was dumb-down what should be broadcast quality sound,” he said. “For me, it’s utmost to keep the quality of sound from the source, wherever you are, as high as possible. Then it can be manipulated and colored in the post room. And the Neumann is the best source that I’ve found.”
