Quincy, IL (December 9, 2005)–Broadcast Electronics continues to optimize core HD Radio technology with a software upgrade for its importer line. A new Dashboard interface distinguishes the company’s IDi 20 Data Importer as the gold standard of importers for provisioning and encoding the HD Radio bitstream for HD2 Multicasting.
Intuitive menuing as well as automated re-start are two of the new features that set the IDi 20 apart from commodity importers in the marketplace. “As stations adopt HD Radio, they’re realizing that key components like the importer can no longer be commodities. These units need to be more functional, more reliable and operationally sound in order to move HD Radio forward,” said Neil Glassman, BE’s vice president strategic marketing.
A common complaint by early HD2 Multicasting adopters has been on-air continuity, in particular re-launching importer functions should a power or other transmission failure occur. BE’s Dashboard includes a click-and-go startup feature that can be remotely accessed through a network or Internet connection to provide broadcasters with the ease of use and reliability they have come to expect of BE products.
A default TCP/IP communication link between the IDi 20 and BE’s FSi 10 HD Radio signal generator is also part of the upgrade to improve system robustness and reduce network packet losses typical of earlier UDP communications.
BE will begin shipping IDi 20 Data Importers with Dashboard version 1.2.0 immediately. Broadcasters can update existing IDi 20 units in the field with Dashboard and update their FSi 10 HD Radio signal generators with the default TCP/IP link (v2.2.5) at no charge by contacting BE’s customer service, at email@example.com or (217) 224-4700.
