San Francisco, CA (October 9, 2006)-At AES this past weekend, NHT Pro announced it will ship two new subwoofers–S-20 and S-80 Xd–in January 2007. Both subwoofers were demonstrated at the show.
Don Bassey, Pro Audio Product Manager for NHT, said, “Ever since we announced the M-60Xd DSP corrected speaker system and M-20 multi-channel monitor, our customer base, which includes some of the most well-respected musicians, producers, and engineers in the business, has been hankering for the perfect subwoofers to complement these products.
“Each of these models illustrates how NHT’s approach to creating a limited line of systems rather than myriad ‘me-too’ models benefits our users by ensuring a seamless subwoofer match for every product in the line.”
As the most potent subwoofer in the NHT Pro line-up, the new acoustic suspension S-80 Xd features two (2) 12″ woofers mounted back-to-back to eliminate unwanted vibrations and eliminate the need for cones or spikes. A mammoth, though cool and efficient 500 Watt Class D amplifier features a single, simple level control, leaving the complex crossover functions to the XdA amplifier processor.
The outboard XdA contains the DEQX DSP processor, four amplifiers, and a power supply. Inputs/outputs include single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) inputs, four powered outputs (to power either a single M-80Xd or a pair of M-60Xd monitors), plus two line and balanced outputs for adding subwoofers. Additionally, the XdA is “future proof” thanks to the addition of a USB 2.0 port and a microphone input, both of which are designed for upcoming upgrades. The XdA features only three controls: a rear panel switch for either stereo or mono bass output, and 4 individual channel controls which provide filter variants dependant on the model used and application desired.
The S-80 Xd subwoofer features a peak acoustic output of 117 dB SPL @ 40 Hz, and overall frequency response of 22Hz – 80Hz +/-2dB with a -6 dB LF cutoff of 17Hz. The unit measures a compact 25.8″ x 12.6″ x 15.35″, and weighs 76 lbs.
The S-20 is the replacement for both the S-00 (“soo”) and B-20 subwoofers. With an all new aluminum cone 10″ woofer and 200 Watt Class D amplifier, the bass reflex design provides tight realistic bass response in any studio or other near- or mid-field environment. Similar to its predecessors, the S-20 features a footswitch bypass and internal high- and low-pass filters, while allowing traditional single box LFE integration and additional output.
NHT Pro Audio’s new S-20 subwoofer offers peak acoustic output of 109 dB SPL @ 35Hz and an overall frequency response of 33Hz – 110 Hz +/-2dB, with a -6 dB LF cutoff at 29Hz. The unit measures a compact 17.5″ x 12.2″ x 15″, and weighs 35 lbs.
Both the S-80Xd and S-20 subwoofers will be available in January 2007 direct from NHT Pro Audio (www.nhtpro.com) as well as select professional audio dealers and its worldwide distributor network.
