New York (April 1, 2011)--One Systems is now shipping its new powered two-box, three-way sound system called POPS (Portable Outdoor Powered System).
Designed for use outdoors in any weather condition, POPS enclosures are said to be rated at IP 56.
Enclosures are sealed to prevent moisture intrusion, thereby making ventilation much more difficult. All powered speakers, especially ones with high-powered amplifiers, have to deal with heat buildup and dissipation for the transducers and amps. When ambient air temperatures are high, black-finished speakers are quite a bit hotter inside because dark boxes absorb heat. The added thermal gradient from direct sunlight coupled with heat from the amplifiers and transducers can increase the driver’s power compression and cause the amps in some powered systems to shut down.
To combat heat buildup common in black or dark-finished powered speakers, One Systems chose a special reflective gray finish that reportedly enables the system to be used in high temperatures and humidity in direct sunlight without shutting down or limiting.
POPS systems use One Systems’ triple-layer “rain shield” grilles that combine high-grade stainless steel, special moisture-resistant material and reticulated foam that provide protection for the drivers and amplifiers.
