New York, NY (July 22, 2005)–In addition to being Pixies guitarist, Joey Santiago is forging a career in television. Over the past few months in-between Pixies’ reunion dates, Santiago has been holed up in the studio scoring the original music for Weeds, the new Showtime original comedy series that debuts August 10.
Weeds stars Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon, and looks at “typical” family life in the suburban neighborhood of Agrestic, CA where recently-widowed Nancy Botwin (Parker) makes ends meet by becoming the neighborhood pot dealer.
Santiago commented, “Scoring a TV series is a lot different than playing in a band, the pace and deadlines are completely different, but once you get into the groove, it’s really great.”
Prior to his work on Weeds, Santiago composed original music for the Fox-TV series Undeclared, and co-scored the feature film Crime and Punishment in Suburbia. He recently wrote a theme for the Cartoon Network’s show Sunday Pants, which will premiere on September 25 at 9:30 PM.
As a member of Pixies, Santiago and his band mates recently received their second Gold record for their 1988 album, Surfer Rosa. The band will headline this year’s Lollapalooza festival to be held tomorrow, Saturday, July 23 in Chicago, and perform an atypical acoustic set at the Newport Folk Festival on August 6.
