Burbank, CA (February 24, 2005)–Post Plus Sound, Inc. (PPS) of Burbank has been chosen to provide all audio post-production for Showtime’s Fat Actress, Kirstie Alley’s latest hit series, which will begin airing in March 2005. Produced by Production Partners, Inc., Fat Actress is a comedy series shot in reality style.
In the series, Alley plays a fictitious version of herself as she attempts to get employment in the entertainment world while packing more than a few extra non-Hollywood-esque pounds. Each episode features top Hollywood names. Guest stars appear as themselves or as other characters, including John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Jeff Zucker, Mark Curry, and Mayim Bialik, to name just a few.
The series is shot in High-Definition and delivered in both Hi-Def and Standard-Def versions. The audio is sound designed and mixed in both stereo and 5.1 audio. Post Plus Sound’s owner, Blaine Stewart, is the head sound designer and mixer on the production. Using Digidesign’s Pro Tools and ProControl as the sound design and mixing tool and mSoft’s Server Sound as the sound effects librarian, PPS is creating a hilarious blend of dialogue, Foley, sound effects, and music.
Special challenges include working in 23.976, 29.97, and, occasionally, 24 frame rates while still maintaining synced sound to all video masters whatever their frame rate. The audio is delivered in as an OMFI output from the editor’s Avid. A DVCam tape of the show is provided as work print. The production mixer provides, through the Avid’s OMFI file, all the mics on the set recorded discretely in the OMFI sequence. The dialogue is cleaned and remixed while adding Foley and sound effects and scored music. Showtime is provided with both the stereo and 5.1 mixes for both the Hi-Def and Standard-Def masters.
