Chicago, IL (October 21, 2005)–Chicago’s Groovemaster Recording recently upgraded its studio with an SSL 4080G+ certified by Professional Audio Design (PAD). Engineer/producer and Groovemaster owner Johnny K recently tracked Disturbed’s new Reprise Records album, Ten Thousand Fists, on the new SSL.
“I had been contemplating a change for some time and when I was ready, I went to directly to PAD,” stated Johnny K. “I had been talking with Dave [Malekpour, president of PAD] for awhile and felt he was very knowledgeable about the business, knows what gear is hot and what would best fit my goals, both short and long-term. After all of the gear was installed, the PAD technicians trained the Groovemaster staff about the board. Everything went so smoothly.”
In addition to the G+, PAD supplied Groovemaster with Dynaudio Acoustics/Custom Munro C4+ main monitors with custom 3×12 subs finished in natural cherry with Chord Electronics amplifiers and XTA crossovers. PAD’s technical group also assisted in the wiring and integration for the new console upgrade. Since the completion of the construction, Groovemaster has recently hosted sessions for P.O.D., Sum 41, Simple Plan, and 3 Doors Down.
“Johnny knew from the beginning the type of board he wanted,” said Malekpour. “We went through all of the options available keeping in mind where he wanted the studio positioned in the future. He had done some mixing in other studios on SSL’s and really liked they way the music sounded. Johnny has some high profile clients and we wanted him to be able to provide the best gear suitable for his customers. Groovemaster is a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Chicago, with many luxurious accommodations and top-of-the-line gear.”
Another of Johnny K’s recent notable credits is the latest 3 Doors Down album, Seventeen Days. Other credits include Finger11, Drowning Pool and Disturbed’s first two records.
