Frankfurt (April 22, 2004)–Statistics have been released to the press indicating that Prolight + Sound International–billed as the International Trade Fair for Event and Communication Technology, Audiovisual Production and Entertainment–registered a 30 percent increase in visitors this year. This marks the largest number of visitors in the 10 years since the show was launched. Over the four days of the fair, 26,735 trade visitors, including more than 9,000 sound experts, lighting designers, planners, set designers, studio technicians, decision makers for technology and design and event-hall operators from outside Germany, came to discover the latest trends and make contacts for the current business year.
“The fair was very well attended, business people have been able to make the contacts they want and, with the innovative segments of media technology and system integration, a new, future-oriented growth market is opening up for the sector,” said Florian von Hofen, chief executive of the Association for Professional Light, Sound and Event Technology. “The economy is picking up and technical innovations are to be seen again at long last.”
The significance of Prolight + Sound as a trigger for lucrative post-fair business was reflected in the reactions of most exhibitors. The level of satisfaction was around 12 percent higher than last year. A full 86 percent of exhibitors were “very satisfied” with the course of business at the fair. Additionally, there was an increase in the number of transactions concluded during the fair. This was reported by more than half of the company representatives polled from all segments and, on average, was up 5 percent on last year’s Prolight + Sound. Additionally, 93 percent were satisfied with their visit to the fair, due to the spectrum and products of the exhibitors, the quality of the congress lectures and the information forums, as well as the halls occupied.
A positive echo came from the restructuring of Hall 8 that, as the focal point for studio technology and fixed installations, as well as for lighting, stage and media technology, links Hall 4.1 with mobile audio technology and Hall 9 with stage and effects technology. On behalf of audio specialists, d & b audiotechnik AG, Bella Staiber said, “We were very satisfied in Hall 8. Customers who want to see us came straight here.” The close proximity to manufacturers of microphones and public-address systems paid off. Elke Ströbel, marketing communications manager of Shure Europe GmbH, was pleased with the course of business at the fair: “We were busy on our stand the whole time.”
The special events of Prolight + Sound were dominated by the latest technological trends in the field of event and communication technology. In addition to its 35 expert lectures on technical, legal and economic aspects of event engineering, the three-day CAVIS offered the 710 participants 35 expert lectures on technical, legal and economic aspects of event technology as well as other events.
The next Prolight + Sound will be held in Frankfurt am Main on April 6-9, 2005, parallel to the International Musikmesse. The next international event is Prolight + Sound Shanghai, which will be held at the new SNIEC exhibition centre in Shanghai on October 20-23, 2004.
