Bethlehem, PA (November 1, 2005)–Will Smith Sr., father actor/recording artist Will Smith, has turned to StarCity Recording Company to mix and master a project by Donald Welch, an artist he recently signed to his label, Philly Through My Ear. Welch, a local Philadelphia playwright, is recording All Things in Time, a full-length CD of ballads and soul music, at StarCity. With the help of Carl Cadden-James, vice president of production and engineering at StarCity Recording Company, the team worked on Welch’s debut CD.
“I have been working with Mr. Smith for years now, ” stated Cadden-James. “He truly respects the talent that he has working around him and is very content to sit back and let them work. At the same time he has strong vision and producer sensibilities and will interject when he feels his comments would be of value to the project. He has a great understanding and love for jazz.”
While mixing Welch’s project, the team worked primarily in the A Room at StarCity Recording Company, which is equipped with an SSL XL 9000 K Series console and a scoring stage capable of accommodating a 40-piece orchestra. Mixing on the SSL, Cadden-James also deployed some LA2A’s, 1176’s, a set of Tube Tech EQ’s, a pair of distressors, a set of Neve EQ’s and a Lexicon 960 reverb.
“I brought Don to StarCity Recording Company to complete the mixing and mastering because it’s a state-of-the-art facility that offers a creative and relaxing atmosphere,” stated Smith. “My record label is much more than a job for me–it’s a passion. When you have the opportunity to work with dedicated professionals, such as the team at StarCity, it makes you truly appreciate what you are doing, and allows you to enjoy the entire process.”
Will Smith Sr.’s label, Philly Through My Ear, has been in production since March of 2003. Other artist’s on his label include Alfie Pollitt, a Philadelphia pianist, as well as Lucky Thompson who is a percussionist. For more information, please visit www.PhillyThroughMyEar.com.
