Clifton, NJ (August 18, 2005)–Engineer Mike Pilkin has opened Redemption Studios, a complex with a spacious live room and two control rooms. Studio A is outfitted with a vintage Neve VR60 loaded 48-track desk, and B houses a Pro Tools HD3 system. Redemption was designed by Walters-Storyk Design Group principal architect/acoustician John Storyk.
“Our original concept was a small studio designed to cater to a primarily local client base,” Pilkin said. “This vision was upgraded dramatically when we retained WSDG.” With engineer Tommy Hayes on board as primary mixer, Redemption can offer clients the dual talents of a skilled technician and talented musician (blues guitar). Hayes’s mixing credentials were confirmed early on in his career with the offer of a Project Supervisor role with SAE immediately after graduation. He later established a solid freelance career tracking and mixing rock bands and blues artists.
In addition to the Neve VR60 and Pro Tools, Redemption’s technology arsenal includes: Manley Vox Box and Massive Passive, Genelec 1038 main speakers, Quested 3208 nearfield monitors, Yamaha NS 10, Studer A827, classic Neumann U87 and matched pairs of Neumann TLM 103 and SKM 184’s, matched pairs of Shure KSM 44’s and KSM 32’s, a wide range of outboard gear and a 7 piece Taye Studio Maple drum kit with UFIP cymbals.
“We did a first pass build on our own, but quickly realized the value of professional design and construction,” Pilken revealed. “John Storyk focused his ‘A Team’ on the project: Romina Larrengina is an absolutely top drawer project manager. Contractor Chris Bowman’s CHBO has built many of WSDG’s most celebrated studios. Marcy Ramos has contributed his HVAC expertise to the lion’s share of Storyk’s assignment and Judy Brown of Connectivity did all of the wiring (microphone panels, outboard gear, patchbays, etc.). It was amazing to watch people of this caliber do their thing. We’re also fortunate to have Gregory Davis of Audio Engineering Services on call to maintain our Neve (which he commissioned). We expect word of mouth on Redemption to be a major component in driving artists here, and we knew that quality makes the vibe.”
“Redemption has a lot going for it,” John Storyk added. “The rooms are handsome, comfortable, and they provide extremely accurate acoustics both in the live and mixing environments. It’s interesting to see young engineers and studio owners who are committed to doing things the right way. We’re proud to have had the opportunity to help bring this studio together.”
