Preparation for the L.A. production of Jersey Boys. Los Angles, CA (July 11, 2007)–When the Tony award-winning musical Jersey Boys opened at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for a limited Summer engagement, the cast and crew handled communications with a Riedel Artist Digital Matrix Intercom configuration and a Riedel Performer Digital Partyline system.
The two systems, integrated and configured via the same configuration software, were specified by Andrew Keister Designs, a New York based sound design company that also served as associate designer for the Broadway show and the U.S. tour.
The intercom system installed at the Ahmanson consists of an Artist 64-port digital matrix with ten 12-key rack mounted control panels and eleven 16-key Riedel Artist 1000 series desktop control panels. Dynamic labeling of the Artist control keys with integrated 8 digit alphanumeric LED displays ensure visibility and readability. Two C44 system interfaces integrate the matrix intercom system with the digital partyline installation containing 12 Performer C3 2-channel beltpacks.
Andrew Keister commented, “I specify Riedel intercom systems because they represent the ultimate in quality and performance. Not only does the equipment perform flawlessly, but it is highly configurable and allows me an unprecedented level of flexibility. As Broadway shows grow more and more complicated, so too do the comms requirements. Riedel allows me to meet these needs with ease. With Riedel’s digital partyline you get rid of all the background noise and buzz, so you are not communicating for hours with something that sounds like a bad telephone line. The superb audio quality really minimizes the fatigue factor.“
Jersey Boys is a documentary-style musical based on the lives of one of the most successful ’60s rock ‘n roll groups, the Four Seasons. The show made its Broadway debut on November 6, 2005 at the August Wilson Theatre. The musical, directed by Des McAnuff, uses many of the group’s hit songs to tell the turbulent story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons’ rise to fame. Jersey Boys won four 2006 Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. The National Tour began in 2006 in San Francisco.
