Moscow, Russia (June 9, 2004)–Mosfilm, the largest film and television production and post production facility in Russia, has decided to install a Solid State Logic XL 9080 K SuperAnalogue console in its main music studio, Studio No. 1.
Andrey Egorov, Mosfilm’s head of studios, chose the console as a replacement for an SSL 4000 G+, which was originally installed more than a decade ago and is now being moved to another smaller studio within the complex. Although Studio No. 1 is primarily used for music recording, Egorov said current market demands for more channels and multiformat mixing were behind his decision to upgrade to an XL. He felt that the SuperAnalogue console was better suited to the facility’s needs because it provided full 5.1 surround architecture as well as the increased bandwidth and resolution needed for DVD-Audio and SACD. The XL is also renowned for its operational flexibility as well as its audio quality and sonic transparency, which Egorov said were all important considerations.
St. Petersburg-based systems integrator Proline ordered the SSL console. Under the guidance of director Andrey Siegle, Proline will refurbish the studio and install new acoustic treatments, as well as a host of new recording and outboard equipment.
Commenting on the sale, Damir Begovic, SSL’s sales manager for Central & Eastern Europe, said, “This is the third project we have carried out with Proline and we are delighted that the relationship is proving so successful. Previous projects have included the installation of an Avant console at Lenfim, St. Petersburg, and two Avant Plus consoles at Mosfilm.”
Situated close to Moscow in the Vorobyev Hills, Mosfilm is one of the world’s oldest and largest film facilities. It was originally established in the early 1920s.
